Whether your complexion is light or dark, there is always strong contrast between your features, creating a rich, captivating appearance. 

Dark Winter combines the coolness of Winter with subtle depth inherited from Autumn, giving this season richness, intensity, and mystery without any warmth. The overall look is deep, bold, and sophisticated. Regardless of the skin color, their bright skin and the whites of their eyes create a high contrast with their dark color hair and eyes.

Skin

Dark Winter skin ranges from fair to deep, with cool, neutral-cool, or sometimes neutral undertones. The complexion may appear smooth and clear, often with tones like porcelain, cool beige, olive, medium taupe, rich brown, or espresso. Freckles may appear, but they typically have a cool or neutral tone rather than warm.

According to the classic metal test, Silver is the most flattering for Dark Winters, enhancing the cool, deep quality of the skin. Some Dark Winters with neutral undertones can also wear cool, antique gold as long as it's muted and not overly warm or brassy.

Eyes

Dark Winter eyes are bold, deep, and captivating, often appearing as the darkest or most intense feature. Some Dark Winters may have dark brown hair with a soft, cool sheen, while others have almost-black hair that enhances the season's depth and contrast. There are no golden or reddish tones present — the hair's richness always remains cool and deep.

Dark Winter sits between True Winter and Dark Autumn on the seasonal flow chart. Dark Winter colours are the darkest and least cool in the Winter family. They are also less saturated and less bright than other Winter seasons.

Neighbouring the Dark Autumn, according to flow theory, makes the Dark Winter palette warmer and softer than other Winters.

Dark Winters and Dark Autumns have dark colouring and high contrast in their features, but Dark Autumns have muted appearance compared to Dark Winter’s brilliance.

Dark Winters have cool (blue, gray) undertones, whereas Dark Autumns have warm (golden, yellow) undertones. Also, Dark Winter's contrast level is higher than Dark Autumn’s.

You can also create contrast by pairing dark and light colors, such as black with light hues or white with darker colors from your palette. While full black and white ensembles or monochromatic combinations entirely in light or dark colors may not be the most flattering options for you, your palette provides a range of choices to maintain a stylish and harmonious appearance.

Patters should contain only Dark winter colors and have high contrast; they should not blend. Avoid light and too bright colors or floral patterns; choose abstract, geometric, and stylish patterns. Medium to big-scale patterns and prints will work better. 

Dark Winters look best in fabrics that reflect the depth, richness, and bold contrast of their palette. Choose structured materials or luxurious textures with a subtle sheen or smooth finish to complement your naturally intense features. Ideal fabrics include velvet, satin, fine wool, silk blends, cashmere, and structured cotton blends. Avoid light, overly soft, or warm fabrics, as they can wash out your natural depth. Instead, choose bold, cool, and rich materials that emphasize your striking, dramatic appearance.
